CSM 74th Annual Conference – Summer 2025
Travelled to Montreal, Quebec, Canada to present my directed study project supervised by Dr. Jonathan Van Hamme and Dr. Eric Bottos at the 74th Annual Conference of the Canadian Society of Microbiologists. The poster was titled “Quantitative PCR assay development for monitoring genes suspected of contributing to PFAS degradation by Gordonia sp. strain NB4-1Y” and presented orally at the conference.
TRU URIC – Winter 2025
Produced and presented a poster titled “Quantitative PCR assay development for monitoring genes suspected of contributing to PFAS degradation by Gordonia sp. strain NB4-1Y” at the 2025 TRU Undergraduate Research and Innovation Conference. The poster presentation focused on research completed during my directed study project with Dr. Jonathan Van Hamme and Dr. Eric Bottos.
TRU SUPER Conference – Winter 2025
Presented a poster titled “Quantitative PCR assay development for monitoring genes suspected of contributing to PFAS degradation by Gordonia sp. strain NB4-1Y” at the 2025 TRU Science Undergraduate Poster Exhibition of Research. The poster presentation focused on research completed during my directed study project with Dr. Jonathan Van Hamme and Dr. Eric Bottos.
In a Nutshell Research Competition – Winter 2025
Orally presented my work under Dr. Jonathan Van Hamme to investigate the ability of Gordonia sp. strain NB4-1Y to degrade environmentally concerning perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, PFAS, in a undergraduate 3-minute thesis competition. The presentation involved delivering an engaging presentation of my research to a non-specialist audience using only one static slide.
Enzyme Tales Video – Fall 2024
Created an entertaining and educational video titled “BIOL 3130 Enzyme Tales – Twilight: A Deer’s Perspective” about the mechanism of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). The video was produced and uploaded publicly to YouTube as part of the BIOL 3130, Introduction to Biochemistry, course. Additionally, the video was included in an educational open resource called Enzyme Tales: Student Created Renditions of Enzyme Mechanisms.
NCBI Database Publication – Summer 2024
Published a complete version of the Rhodococcus sp. JVH1 genome to the National Centre for Biotechnology Information Database as a result of my work completed under Dr. Jonathan Van Hamme during my second NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award.
TRU URIC – Winter 2024
Co-created and presented a poster titled “SI-traceable purity assignment of volatile material ethylbenzene by quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy” at the 2024 TRU Undergraduate Research and Innovation Conference. The poster was created as a part of the CHEM 2100 course, Introductory Analytical Chemistry, and the TRU Research Coach Program.
NCBI Database Publication – Summer 2023
Published a complete version of the Gordonia sp. strain NB4-1Y genome to the National Centre for Biotechnology Information Database as a result of my work completed under Dr. Jonathan Van Hamme during my first research apprenticeship.
